Hello & welcome to the Burghfield WI website

Susan Potter - President, Burghfield WI

Our branch of the WI was founded in 1917 and is a member of the Berkshire Federation of Women's Institute and the wider National Federation of Women's Institutes. Our new WI logo is "the WI Inspiring Women".

My name is Susan Potter and after a year as President of Burghfield WI, I have been re-elected for another year, which I am thrilled about. I really enjoy the role, and during the last year, we have had such varied and interesting speakers and outings. We have also attracted many visitors at our meetings, and during the year, several have joined us as members, 2 of whom have joined our committee.

Our Open Meeting last September was attended by approximately 70 members and local villagers, all having been invited to join us to take part and literally taste a WI meeting with cheese and wine. Our speakers were Jean Sheppard and Margaret Church, both members, who took us on "A tour of New Zealand". It was very positive to hear both chatter and laughter following the beautifully presented and delivered presentation for well over an hour from our members and guests, some of which were men!

Our trips out during the year have included amongst others, the Watermill Theatre "Daisy Pulls it Off" followed by a cream tea, and also a visit to the Silchester dig followed by a pub lunch.

Please take a look at our new programme for 2011/12 and come along as a visitor to one of our meetings to find out more – you will be made very welcome. I am confident you will enjoy yourself and find something that will interest you.

We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm in Burghfield Village Hall.
