Hello & welcome to the Burghfield WI website
Our branch of the WI was founded in 1917, so this year we celebrate 95 years, we are a member of the Berkshire Federation of Women's Institute and the wider National Federation of Women's Institutes. Our WI logo is "the WI inspiring Women"
My name is Susan Potter and after two years as President of Burghfield WI, I have been re-elected for one more year, which I am really thrilled about. I really enjoy the role and during the year we have had such varied and interesting speakers and outings. We have also attracted many visitors at our meetings and during the year 6 new members have joined us making 48 members.
Last year at our June garden meeting, amongst the bunting, gazebos and great food we undertook our regular business. We finished off the evening with 'splat the rat' and 'welly wanting' amongst other traditional unusual garden games. It was such fun to see members of all ages, ranging from their 30's to their 80's taking part together, the age difference spanning generations, but in the WI everyone is equal and friendship has no age barrier.
Our trips out during the year included a visit to the Whitchurch Silk Mill, a visit to Highgrove Gardens with lunch in Tetbury and a visit to Bletchley Park.
Please take a look at our new programme for 2012/13, and either come along as a visitor to one of our meetings or come to our Open Meeting later in the year, where speaker Tony Weston will talk to us about 'Surviving Wedding Photography', to find out more about the WI - we serve cheese and wine at this meeting - you will be made very welcome. I am confident you will enjoy yourself and find something to interest you.
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm Burghfield Village Hall.
